Gone are the good old days when our parents celebrated their silver & golden jubilees at jobs, oops did I mention…….at the same job:). There were huge celebrations at retirement parties, after they worked for decades at the same office. Colleagues would give gifts, so would relatives.
I wonder if we start celebrating fairwell’s now, there would be hundreds of them every month and we would need a department to manage them. They would be so frequent and won’t hold that value in today’s scenario.
Time and practices have changed drastically. Parents who used to be proud of themselves while getting retired after serving the same Organisation for decades, have adapted themselves to prevailing practices, where every year or two, their children are changing jobs.
The only definition, the only one parameter of success for our own society is the additional ‘zeroes’ in the pay package. That is how we are judging our kids. Isn’t that one of the major reasons for their instability and pressure of looking out for “better options”.
Brand value, challenging projects, CMMi/ISO, other accreditations, none of these mesmerise the job seekers more than the mullah, the pay package.
Shouldn’t we all rethink about it and choose jobs based on the pleasure the work brings, the pride it brings…
